Stage 2 - Grado to Salas

Today was the long day… almost 20 miles, 32 km. I had to catch up yesterday to Grado and continue to Salas. Today Camino showed me that it’s not all about fun, it requires a lot of work, workout, and attention. I got lost a few times, mostly in cities. It’s so confusing in cities, like scavenger hunting for yellow arrow. Countryside is well marked, but it’s very tricky to find the shell or yellow arrow between city signs and advertising…🙃 so I’ve got a few extra miles today.

I struggled today, mostly with the heat. It was so hot, almost 95F… and carrying 20lb backpack… I’m red like a shrimp🤪

Sanctuary de Nuestro del Fresno, it’s a temple from 16th century.

typical village street I passed by a lot

I saw my older daughter’s name a few times today. My thought were about you all day today, my dear, my beautiful, successful, purposeful, young lady. Wishing you all your dreams come true! I love you endlessly 💕

Met a very nice couple today, Jose and Alejandra from Bilbao, Spain. We hiked together for a while, they speak pretty good English. I’m so sorry I don’t speak Spanish, most of people here speak Spanish only. They told me they admire me, I’m very brave, came all the way from Seattle by myself to hike Camino. I told them that I’m Russian originally ... they said that it explains a lot 😂🤣

Salas and my lodging for tonight Casa Sueno

Interesting story - she is from Brazil, came to hike Camino and met a men here, they got married and opened this albergue in Camino Primitivo as a sign that they have found love here https://www.casasueno.es/en/home/

very nice place! My dream …

Also, for me, the first few days were the most challenging. It gets easier as a body adjusts to this life style haha :)

Sorry to hear about the heat in the combination with the heavy backpack! That's the worst combination :( Hopefully the weather will be more pleasant in the coming days.

I got lost in the cities a few times too. I used a combination of my book's day walk outline, which showed the streets where the Camino was, and the Maps on my phone to find those streets.

A continuous internet access was very helpful for me in this case.
