Camino Portuguese Day 33-34. 5/21 - 5/22. Vilanova de Arousa - Padron - O Sisto.

I noticed in Spain, and Portugal too, there is Virgin Mary at the head of the altar in most churches. Also, most of churches and chapels named after woman saints. The mass at Virgin de Carmel, the patron saint of sailors in Vilanova de Arousa.

Dinner. Scallops and pardon peppers.

Padron-Hebron peppers were actually brought from America to this region. Must be from South America🤔

I took the boat this morning which takes pilgrims via Ria de Arousa to Padron where they continue their Camino with other pilgrims who didn’t take the spiritual detour and walked to Padron on central Portuguese route.

When I walked through Padron there was a farmer’s market in the city center (today is Sunday) I took some pictures of the market’s goodies 🍖🧀 🥖 🥦 and bought some cherries 🍒

I’ve got my first credential! It’s called Pedronia and historically was obtained by pilgrims who walked to Pedron to see the place where the remains of apostol st James arrived by boat from the Palestine to Galicia. I got it at St Mary of Adina (again… named after saint woman) one of the oldest churches in Galicia.

A mass at the pilgrims church of st James.

Today is my rest day. I’m staying in Padron in rustic Casa Antiga do Monte, enjoying the view and cherries 🍒

Walking out of Padron was nice and short. I stayed in Casa Rural Vella da Rivera before Santiago. We had a community dinner with other pilgrims. My plan is to arrive to Santiago de Compostela tomorrow morning, on my 50th birthday 🥳
