Camino Portuguese Day 31-32. 5/19 - 5/20. Pontevedra- Poio - Vilanova de Arousa.

Walked out of Pontevedra early morning… empty streets, it’s hard to believe after last night crowds of pilgrims with locals…

After couple kilometers there was a split to the spiritual way from the main central Camino Portuguese. I chose to go there because all pilgrims went to the traditional central way. And I’m so glad I did it! It turned out great and peaceful way compared to last few overcrowded days on central route after Tui. I walked through vineyards of Albariño, one of famous Spanish (Galician) wine.

First view of the Pontevedra estuary and the monastery where I'm staying for the night.

Today I stayed in monastery!!!

Monasterio de Poio was founded in 12ty century.

My celúla for tonight 😁

It also has a museum that represents the mosaic school that they have in the monastery. Pretty cool!

The way I walked after Poio was even more beautiful! Visited a small traditional fishing town Combarro with tiny streets, granaries, shops and beautiful vistas.

Hiked from monastery to monastery today, more than 10km uphill stretch with elevation gain almost 1000 feet… beautiful panoramic view of Pontevedra estuary.

A local has left a fridge containing cold drinks free of charge (how nice!) to make the claims up Castrove mountain easier…

Monasterio de Santa Maria de Armenteira. 12-century in Renaissance and Neoclassical style.
